Welcome!

I’m a professional actor, singer, and educator. I’m also a husband, dog-dad, writer, outdoor recreationalist, community builder, mentor, live music lover, and coffee enthusiast.

I’ve been lucky enough to have toured with two Broadway productions, Peter and the Starcatcher and Come From Away. I’ve built a theatrical career that is both national and international, with ensemble-building foundations from many years in Chicago. I’m open to new adventures, fresh ideas, stimulating conversations, creative problem-solving, and community building.

I hope to build bridges, listen-to-understand, move forward with intention and curiosity, and bring people together…probably over coffee.

Welcome to my page!

In 2023, I finished up a five-year run on the Broadway North American Tour of Come From Away — nearly 1,300 performances, closing in Victoria, British Columbia. My wife, Ashley Lanyon, and I made a significant move to Seattle with our dog Charley.

Since our move, Ashley completed an MFA in Arts Leadership at Seattle University, a degree she worked her butt off for — congratulations, darling! In consecutive seasons, I've been lucky enough to play King Arthur in Camelot and Tommy Albright in Brigadoon at Village Theatre, stepping into a "Golden Age" era, it seems.

"I feel my molecules have shifted."

Teaching has become a bigger part of my life. I'm in my third year of K-12 substituting and theater workshop leadership. At the onset of 2026, I co-led eleven high school students on a cultural immersion trip to Senegal, West Africa.

May this year be filled with joy, work, energy, gratitude — and some exciting developments on the horizon.

How To Handle A woman - Camelot, Village Theatre

Playing King Arthur was a role of a lifetime, especially during a time of political turmoil. Here is a promotional performance of “How to Handle a Woman” on New Day NW

National Anthem

Harter sings the Star-Spangled Banner at the Great American Ballpark on September 26, 2019. Longtime Reds commentator, Marty Brenneman, retired on this day. The Reds faced off with the Chicago Cubs. It was a beautiful day at the ballpark with the company of Come From Away present.

come from away - in concert

On the 20th Anniversary of 9/11, cast members of various Come From Away companies came together to share this story on the Lincoln Memorial steps. This special night was made possible by Washington D.C.’s Ford’s Theatre and the National Park Service. Watch Harter rock out at 2 Minutes!

WeatherTech National Commercial

In 2018, Harter learned an invaluable lesson—how to ride a Segway! Here is a National Commercial spot he did for WeatherTech, titled “Parking Garage Ninjas”, directed by Don Hoeg of Radar Studios. Enjoy!
